I ran trough some installation problems, before I got the bots running, so here’s what I did:

I have a no steam TF 2 installed in “x:\Program Files\Team Fortress 2 - No Steam\TeamFortress2” (this is just an example directory). I download the 0.4 bots and install them. I put the rcbot2 folder in “x:\Program Files\Team Fortress 2 - No Steam\” which is one dir above the actual TeamFortress2 directory. Then I put the HPB_bot2.dll in “x:\Program Files\Team Fortress 2 - No Steam\TeamFortress2\bin” which is the bin dir of the actual TF2 install dir. Then inside “\rcbot2\config\ bot_mods.ini” I change the line that says steamdir = orangebox to steamdir = TeamFortress2 (the actual name of my TF2 dir). And when I enter the game and type plugin_load "..\bin\HPB_Bot2" the bots load normaly and I can play. BTW if your bots don’t move try copy the TF dir in “\rcbot2\waypoints\team fortress 2” to “\rcbot2\waypoints\<actual dir of TF2>” and it should work.

I do the same thing for my orange box TF2 with different folders, but there the bots crash in-game. Hope this would be of help.

I’m sorry if my explanation was confusing for you, but I was trying to answer your question and show that you don’t need Half Life 2 to run rcbots on TF2. A bit more details on your problem and how exactly the bots wont work for you would help. What happens when you go into TF2 and try to load the HPB_Bot2.dll?

If your using 0.4 version, download the newest version. Wasn't that ServerGame glitch a problem in the scout update?

I can't spawn bots because it says I don't have access to the command. I made sure I had the right steam id.

what do you mean with 'portable'?

and the non steam version might work, but the way I think it should work is only theorical, and hasn't been tested.

now,if your non steam TF2 has the scout update, you probably should try 0.5 if it works.

it is better to start story from beginning
first of all I downloaded tf2 portable from that address
http://4download.blog.com/2009/10/23/team-...onlinelanbotsm/
as I understood this provide lan game, then I thought this will be like tfc and I downloaded it, then I extract both the game and bot pack (rcbot lastest ver.) . after that I entered plugin_load.....(given dll load command) then I got following error
IPB Image
how can I solve this problem or which update should I download that I mentioned above?

Have you downloaded all of the patches that range from the sniper update to the WAR! update?
I think that the WAR! update made TF2 Version 1.0.7.0
Also I checked the version of the bot addon patch. That's version 0.4.2.
If your non steam doesn't have the scout update, DL the bot patch from megaupload.

The answer's simple now. If you don't have the scout update, download version 0.4.2.
If you have it, download the rest of the patches and install them. Then try the latest version again.

That seems to be a very outdated version of Team Fortress 2 (the war update's menu only consists of the same annoying Soldier vs. Demo background and some info about war). Please get the newest version or buy it legally to receive needed support.

Well... crap biggrin.gif I said that the scout update brought an update to TF2's engine which disabled RCbot2 (because of crashes) until Cheeseh updated the bots to work with that update.

WAR! Update is (If I recall correctly) 1.0.7.0

I don't remember scout update, but you are using the alpha 0.4.2?

If you are, then your only choice is to download the newest version, and because on newest editions of RCbot2, the RCbot2 folder (waypoints, profiles, etc.) is placed in the steamapps folder. Therefore, you can try something that's only been built in theory by me, but it might work.
Here's how it works.

1. Make a folder and name it steamapps.
2. Rename your Portable TF2 folder to team fortress 2 (type it like that)
3. Place the Portable TF2 in the steamapps folder you made.
4. Download the newest version of RCbot2, and place the rcbot2 folder in the steamapps folder.
5. Place the DLL of RCbot2 where you're supposed to.
6. Test if it works.
That's all I have considering that apparently one of those patches was the scout update (RCbot2 crashes on load)
Give it a try, and tell me the results.
If it doesn't work either, then one addition would be to create folders which you name according on this order: (will give it when I get back on my real computer, this PC doesn't have steam)

Wait. If WAR! Update is version 1.0.7.0 which you downloaded, try putting tf_bot_add to your console when you load a map.

Try KOTH maps, viaduct for example.
