It'da been cooler if it were half as long.. they got like 15 good ideas, and stretched em out, instead of coming up with 30 good ideas...

HL2 is ok. I give it a "B". Could have been better if the loading time was faster. Otherwise, it feels and looks kinda like half-life 1 all over again just much, MUCH better looking.

blink.gif Rats I got the stuttering problem making the game hard to play. At the exact same places it starts stuttering and hangs for anywhere from 30 sec to 2 min and then goes back to working. In some places it does it 4 or 5 times in a row as you go froward in other places it goes for a long time with no problem. It does not like the man killer things and there are a lot of them. None of the posted fixes make much diffrence sad.gif Stupid Valve its there sound engine for sure mad.gif

Mine would stutter every now and then, when it's loading a sound for the first time usually.. with the enormous load times I dunno why the hell they dont over pre-cache the stuff.. It's probably Norton going nuts on the checking used files for viruses or something...

But, I was running a constant minimum of 80 FPS at 1280x960 with maxed out pretties, aside from FSAA and antistropic filtering, cause when you're tearing ass through aqueducts at 50 miles an hour, who sees jaggies?

I'd suggest you turn off damn near everything that isn't vital when you play it, I usually had Winamp going, and a bunch of windows open, but I'm a moron. biggrin.gif

Overclocking your video card's another solution.. A friend OC'd his Nvidia something or other ~15% with Rivatuner, and it brought him up another 10FPS.

Of course you wanna make sure you have adequate cooling whenever you overclock anything! And always, test over and over for stability. You don't need to be in the middle of a game, sweat pouring down your face with anticipation of the next turn, and all of a sudden, BAM! your computer reboots. Damned complimentary reboots...

I liked Half-Life 2.

But...

It could have been much, much better. The potential alone of it is so high that it could form into a solid. It just hasn't been exploited enough, in my humble opinion.

I see in it, a game exploiting a technology. And not a technology exploiting a game, sadly. It was the same case with Doom 3. But in my opinion, Doom 3's case was horrible. It felt blend. Empty.

Half-Life 2 has something special in its atmosphere, it's well done. But there's to many places where I felt quite nothing. Just walking around, mindlessly killing life forms.

The Coasts levels, for example (No spoilers ahead), they could have been made with such a terrific, involving atmosphere. But it seemed to...how could I say...to clean. So many things missing. Look at the very first part of it, for example. There's about nothing to do in there.

No to mention I had that feeling I had to run away from sequences instead of taking the time to fight enemy forces.

And, come to think of it, I think Half-Life 2 has the following MAJOR flaw, and it's quite a fact, too, which is: The sheer number of total enemies in the game.

Don't you guys agree ? I mean, H-L 2 ISN'T an adventure game, it's a F-P-S for God's sake.

Yes, I know. The Ant Lions spawn infinitely, endlessly in the Coasts levels. But that's a very, very cheap way to feature action in a game. In my humble opinion. And I don't really care how much time and efforts from the developers it takes to pre-set enemies, and blah blah. Those guys made that awesome Source engine from scrap. They're the best out there. They could have thought about that. Easily.

And what's up with those metalic-like reflections on tires ? And other surfaces where reflections aren't as clear as metal or water. Looks like they didn't verify which objects can reflect stuff.

There's many, many mistakes in H-L 2...but I think it's still one of the best F-P-S ever released for the PC platform. I'm glad I bought it, and I can't wait for the future modifications for it, such as DoD: Source.

dry.gif I don't like where the story is going as I have already heard about the ending. When you play a game you should be able to WIN and in the HalfLife series you never really can the ending to the first one was lame and it sounds like the ending to this one is even worse cool.gif

That's true both the HalfLife games look good for their time but when you get to the end you kind of get the shaft. At least in Doom3 you make it out alive biggrin.gif

But with Doom 3, you gotta trudge on with a crappy engine, through the worlds most repetative and boring maps, and the ending on D3 is completely not worth the work it took getting there.

?Welcome, welcome to City-17. It'd be safer if you could find my lovely pet, his name is Lamarr. You have chosen, or have been chosen to find it...? laugh.gif

Just thought about that. Someone has to create a modification where Gordon's ultimate goal is to find Lamarr !
