I'll just put here what I put on my forums...

word though the grapevine says NS will be 100% steam supported within a month, no more clunky patches or downloading 75 patches and installing them separately! woo!

QUOTE (Some spoot from the NS forums)
Natural Selection has been for a very long time in the shadow of Counter Strike and Day of Defeat. On any given day there would be 50 times more people playing CS, than NS. For example, the moment I am making this post, 55,875 players are playing CS, and only 1,313 on NS. Total Minutes played for CS right now are 2.322 billion, while only 48.105 million for NS. These statistics will drastically change once NS turns from a third party game, into one supported by Valve under the My Games Section.

A large inflow of new players will see their steam list, and that a new mod is there. Lets say, 10% of CS players try the game out, and just 2% of decide stick with it. That means on an average day as today, 1118 new players (55,875 CS players on right now / 50) would be added to our little community right off the bat.

Looking at this in perspective, on an average day (such as today) there would be an 85% growth in the NS population, if just 2% of CS players decided to take up NS on the day it gets released to "My Games."

Now NS has a very, very steep learning curve, and is one of the hardest games to get started in. I know when I first started playing in 1.00, I had no idea what I was doing, and neither did anyone else. We all fumbled along trying to get better in a very complicated game with a great atmosphere and innovative game play.

When NS is released to the public under "My Games" There is going to be a swarm of new players. Even if 1% of CS players take up NS, that still hundreds of players. Now these guys won't even know what a gorge is, or what to do as an alien.

I implore you, if you want to get new people involved in NS, don't be mean to these new players, instead understand that it is a new experience to most. NS is very tactical, and most of these new players will have no idea what to do.

It took me years to get to the point that I am today and I have a lot of room to grow. Think of how long it took you to get to where you are, and understand that it does take months to get this game down. NS isn't like counterstrike in that you can sit down, just point and click and the round is over in a few minutes.

We as a community need to nurture these players. We can't yell or scream "FREAKIN NOOB OMG BAN HIM" or else NS will go nowhere. We have to be nice, and understand where they are coming from, and help them out. If we don't, then we will be loosing a lot of players.

I love this game and I want new players not to leave. I implore you, help out your fellow players, realize that they are new, and don't put them down. Don't be rude because they want to save for the big rino, or if they keep walking headfirst into marines. If we nurture these new players NS will thrive and grow.

That?s my 2 cents. (/me awaits forlorn bashing)

and oh how wonderful the vets are...

QUOTE (Some Jackass NS Vet)
Ohhh boy...
That'll be a joy; commanding newbies... but not just any newbies; newbies from Counter Strike. Sure, there'll be a good soldier here and there that will follow orders, but im also sure that the majority will just sit around, pick their noses, and get owned by the aliens.

Something has to be done to NS to make it less newbie-vulnerable; stamp it into the minds of new players to follow orders or die; lessen the learning curve by simplifying basic functions; tell them how to use the popup menu!
