RCBot Forums _ RCbot2 _ RCBot2 Installer 2019

Posted by: Cheeseh Jan 6 2019, 11:41 AM

With an increasing number of people struggling to install RCBot2 I've created an installer for windows listen server. Download here:

http://rcbot.bots-united.com/downloads/RCBot2Installer.zip

extract and run setup.exe

This installs the latest version from my GitHub to all three mods (Tf2/dod:s/hl2 dm) and updates all hook info automatically as long as you are connected to internet when installing.

Remember the bot offsets may differ between TF2 and DOD:S so it comes with a MOD changer in the config folder when installed. HL2DM will always be installed correctly.

(IF YOU DON'T DO THE ABOVE THE SERVER MAY CRASH!)

Note: If you encounter crashes on cp/pl maps please follow the instructions below:

1. disable auto bot joining
2. change map to cp_dustbowl
3. after the map starts do not join , just enter the command "rcbot debug mstr_offset_search"
4. it will give you a number, write it down
5. in console type "rcbot_const_mstr_offset <number>" with the number
6. now you may add bots
7. enter "rcbot_const_mstr_offset <number>" with the number into rcbot2/config/config.ini to make this automatic (or put in autoexec.cfg)

Dedicated Server / Linux

follow advanced user instructions from Robocop

Hi all, I was checking the waypoints in this installer for Day of Defeat:Source only.
There are 40 usable (66 but 24 are version copies and 2 have no map downloads) dods waypoints in the http://rcbot.bots-united.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2222 files.

Looking through the forums here and a few other places I found another 40 or so, tested them and ended up with 37 that are acceptable to very good.

I think they can be added to the install?
I didn't test on a game server just my own listen server but I couldn't see a reason to exclude them. It makes extra working waypoints for 77 playable dods maps biggrin.gif

Some of those missing 37 are really important maps, played to death on pub servers.

Here is a download of the 37 "mapname".rcw files.... http://www.dodbits.com/dods/index.php/dods/dods-downloads/download/32-dod-s-other-files/189-37-missing-rcbot2-dod-s-waypoints

http://www.dodbits.com/dods/index.php/dods/rcbot2-for-dod-s/117-known-rcbot2-waypoints-and-map-downloads plus the 37 I found in the forums.
The page has links to the waypoint download and the map.

Below those tables I also placed my notes on each one reviewed, most were OK but some would benefit from a fix.

The waypoints in the download are for these maps...

Hey INsane_dod,

Good work on the packs and web pages, looks nice, and I liked the mini-reviews too smile.gif ... I looked at some of the waypoints in Softny's pack, the ones i've checked so far have all been waypointed by a member of this forum. I have a feeling none of the waypoints in that pack were done by Softny? Here are the waypoints I have checked for original waypoint owners...

Credits Corrections:
dod_verdun_b3 - htt123 - 13809

dod_beaverville_b2 - Emotional & madmax2 - 10347

dod_don - Emotional & madmax2 - 11395

dod_arrierveld_rcw2 - Emotional & madmax2 - 14834 - not in Softny's pack

Note: Emotional & I teamed up on several waypoints, Emotional autowaypointed them, and I fixed/polished them...

====================================================================
I haven't finished going through Softny's pack, and these are not in the 37 pack, but at least 3 are my wpts and 1 is htt123's:

dod_azure - madmax2 - 16632

dod_marche - madmax2 - 10695

dod_vigilance - madmax2 - 15514

dod_beachlanding_tdf - htt123 - 31497

I'll post more info over the next few days... I can probably post the links to the original owners/downloads if you need them... most are in the forums, I believe.

Many of the waypoints were done on waypoint system 3 (RCbot 0.76 and earlier). If they are loaded on a newer RCbot version, they automatically are converted and saved in the newer waypoint 4 format. The size of the waypoint will increase by 64 bytes. I think all of HTT's waypoints were in the newer format, so size will remain the same on those...

I do have some "fixed" waypoints I never released, one is dod_beachlanding_tdf.

I think the main reason many waypoints never were added to the installer was because the original owner never asked to do so. Also, waypoints were in flux back then, and the forums seemed the best place at the time, I guess... wink.gif

Nice!

I appreciate any help on this, I will adjust the Author/web links.

Important to get the best waypoints and the right author... I know what long hours waypoints can take.
I tried rcbot info, that doesn't work so your info would help a great deal.

When I searched them I should have used the forums first. Early on I was just grabbing them from where ever google took me.

ahhh Gamebanana... where anyone can place an "author" claim and it stays up for years. Bandits ! ph34r.gif

Oh nice... like to get that one.

Thanks for the info on the waypoint conversion, I will do some reading on the guides, I have waypointed for ShirkeBot and SturmBot but never this one.

I've checked a small number of waypoints, and dod_bretagne_v2 is somewhat broken, though bots do cap they seem to bunch up a lot and get stuck in places, looks ugly tongue.gif ... I may upload a fixed version of dod_beachlanding_tdf after I've checked it, and maybe a few others I fixed a while back. So maybe remove dod_bretagne_v2 after I've done that? Actually, some of the other "fixed" waypoints are not in Insane's pack or the installers.

[edit] Per Insane's mini-reviews, sounds like the wn71 waypoints have serious problems too? I may check those too?

@ Insane, I sent 3 PM's to you with corrected credits for your web pages... wink.gif

Oh... thank you very much biggrin.gif

I have updated my review page that you added the waypoints and also sorted out who the authors were and where the best forum link or download is.

http://www.dodbits.com/dods/index.php/dods/rcbot2-for-dod-s/117-known-rcbot2-waypoints-and-map-downloads

I have been away from Day of Defeat:Source for a long time, these bots have brought me back.
That is how important your (and the waypointers work) is.

It's the the only viable future dods has for some of us... if you want to play on a full server in places like Australia.
2 servers and often empty.
I can have a game now man... an I enjoying it.

Thanks, you guys are awesome.

Appreciate the help, enjoying your waypoints every day.

Yes the WN71 waypoints are nasty but still worth keeping in as the issues are a mix of the map itself and possible someone can improve them.

Part of the problem is the map itself, on spawn I noted the moving landing craft the bots drop through the moving model and die, this also happens on the axis side.
It must have a custom spawn configuration in the map.

Then the very first allied cap, its on a timer, the bots just run past it.

So... broken map I would say is more the issue.

Okay, Thanks for the info on wn71, I'll put that off and check it out later... Thanks for supporting RCbot and DoD... dod_beachlanding is going to take a bit longer than I originally thought, to "tweak" it. I want to finish my new wpt within a week, too... Anyways, might be a few days before either is released... wink.gif

Nice and hey... take your time.
I play for fun and that also includes work on game file too... otherwise it gets to be a drag.

Next for me is a waypointing menu and a manual inside the game panels.
I did have this already but VALVe broke the capability of displaying a HTML page in the team menu.

Map configs too, like playing dod_anzio on 16 players is good, having 1 sniper 1 mg goth sides OK... but dod_orange_gunna_arena with the same... you can never get the last flag, I got close...about 10 steps away.

With an increasing number of people struggling to install RCBot2 I've created an installer for windows listen server. Download here:

http://rcbot.bots-united.com/downloads/RCBot2Installer.zip

extract and run setup.exe

I have another item that you may even like to place it in your topic at the bottom.

Thanks to the RCBot2 team (you know who you are) Day of Defeat:Source now has support for 84 maps in total. blink.gif
75 custom maps and 9 VALVe maps that come with the game.
The size is 3.09 GB for all those ohmy.gif

How about a download for the 75 custom maps?

Uploading at the moment on Mediafire, a 1.45GB download of the 75 custom maps to match the waypoints in your installer.

Link to the zip...
https://www.mediafire.com/file/5qg2g2ji1d2g10f/RCBot2_75_custom_dods_maps.zip

Please read the readme, its in text and PDF. The download has 75 folders that go into your 'custom" folder. That way if there is a small update for the map all the files are individually separated to update.

They will also go in a Linux and MacOS install as that uses the standard folder to place in modifications...
64Bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\custom
32Bit C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\custom

Other OS like linux should have the same structure past... "Drive and file system"... /Steam/steamapps/common/Day of Defeat Source/dod/custom

Placing in all the map Authors is a lot of work in the readme, I have a link to a page on my website that points to most of waypointers and the individual map download sites, the Authors and descriptions are there in those links but I may expand my page and add a further column like the (unfinished) waypoint authors...
http://www.dodbits.com/dods/index.php/dods/rcbot2-for-dod-s/117-known-rcbot2-waypoints-and-map-downloads

Full list of the 75 maps...

Note the ones with "Valve" beside them are the 9 standard Day of Defeat: Source maps.

I just want to share something tongue.gif

Tonight while assembling that map download I had to test some items.
I have a windows VM on my home server, it has a dods server on it.

So the grand kids came over with my son, he's 30 something and the kids are 4 and 10.

We were all on it at the same time, 16 player and dod_anzio and the 4 of us.

Three generations playing dods and RCBot2... the 4 and 10 year old had an epic time teamkilling bots and each other in spawn rolleyes.gif

Some things never change.

I'll show them Counter-strike, fire up another VM so I can get a decent game in with the bots ph34r.gif

Topic is a check on your installer - Found 5 files are left behind after a uninstall.

I was just about to update my installer and was checking your installer (I always install in a desktop directory first so its clean.)

I used the normal uninstall for windows in the legacy control panel "add remove programs" (my install is windows 10 64bit)

I noticed theses 5 files are not deleted and left behind 2X msi installer support files in the "common" folder and 3 rcbot2.vdf in each game directory...

common
HookInfoUpdate.InstallState
VDFMaker.InstallState

common/Day of Defeat Source/dod/addons/metamod
rcbot2.vdf

common/Half-Life 2 Deathmatch/hl2mp/addons/metamod
rcbot2.vdf

common/Team Fortress 2/tf/addons/metamod
rcbot2.vd

Image from directory printer...
Attached Image

I know how annoying that is when making installers, so easily done biggrin.gif

Cheers

Yep, sounds like a blast, LAN games are the best with family & friends... smile.gif

Wow, nice big map pack download, good work. Should be good for those just getting started with RCbot2... smile.gif

I am not sure but I prefer using unzipping installation method, despite it can be tricky to setup and add the folders in the proper directories.

Hey Emotional, if you just want dods RCbot2, try INsane's installer. Perhaps that will work for you...?

He also has manual install instructions if you prefer... wink.gif

P.S. I hope to get back to waypointing in about 2 weeks, svencoop & dods...?

The problem hasn't disappeared. I install INsane_dod's installer, and launch rcbot2 from the desktop shortcut. When i tried to start the map, the game crashed, as before. I've already redownloaded all DoD:S content, but it didn’t help. sad.gif How to fix it?

rerun the hook info update (see first post)

Well, finally I solved the problem.

Conditions: Win7 x64, i7-3630QM, GT 645M 1gb, 8 gb RAM.

Object: (Steam DoD:S + Rcbot2 1.0) & (No-Steam DoD:S + Rcbot2 1.0)

Problem: When any version starts, they crashing after loading menu. Аdditionally, Steam version after crashing didn't allow launch DoD:S again. Although I interrupted still worked after crash hl2.exe through ctrl-alt-delete, but in Steam DoD:S still was as "Running". Even after restart Steam, DoD:S still was as "Running", and only reboot can helped me run DoD:S again - but only until the next crash.

Solution (tested only on Win7x64):

Start menu -> Search program and files -> regedit.exe
Regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Mircrosoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion -> GRE_Initialize
In GRE_Initialize (not LargeFont or SmallFont) find DisableMetaFiles. His type must conform with your Windows - DWORD for 32-bit, QWORD for 64-bit. Data must be 0. If parameter DisableMetaFiles is absent, need to create it with appropriate system depth, DWORD or QWORD and data 0. Close regedit, reboot computer and all must works correctly. Have a good game! wink.gif
