Just wanted to ask about RCBots lack of ability to recognise a lift button waypoint, a friend and myself have been slaving away on a NS_Nirvana trying to get the waypoints out in order to get the Bots runing smoothly.
After many hours of slaving away at it we managed to sort out all of the ladders but there is one lift in the middle of the map that is causing us grief: the bots will activate the button at the top of the lift 9/10 but the bottom button is a completely different story, the bot will move directly through the lift button waypoint but will ignore the button completely. We have tried moving the waypoint over every single pixel of area in front of the lift, we've tried triangulating the waypoints in order to have the bot cycle through if it doesn't hit it the first time. Yet it will constantly ignore it. This is not to say that it won't hit the button at all as it has happened on a few rare occasions and usually after i have ejected from the Com Chair. My suspicion is that it is a memory error but i am living in hope that it isn't. Anyway i've ranted enough and have probably answered my own question in the process. Cheers anyway and keep up the good work. |2usty |

Maybe I can help? If you want, send me a link to the map and your current waypoint and I will take a look at it for you.

IMO the bots "ignore" the red lift button wp, I solely use normal blue ones just hiding next wp behind lift/door will make it push the button - only works upwards through lift though, calling for lift that is - bot will be standing on lift until issued other orders by Cmdr.
(Yes, I can make bot lower lift from top position and then jump down taking ev. penalty, but I try to keep bots going through ladders - works just fine with 1.1 setting both yellow wp in bottom and normal blue top wp to "Stay close to", tend to not work in 1.2 thus I went back to good'ole 1.1). |

the red lift button waypoint is important for lifts that need buttons.
The red lift button should be put where you want the bot to wait for the lift when it's coming up or down. And it should also be placed near the lift button of course (in a place which is visible to the button and the lift when it is down preferrably) See the ns_origin waypoints with the middle lift, I see bots use it well. |

Thanks for the replies!
Sandman: We can email the map and rcw/rcv files to you if you wish. We also found that we could copy the rcw for NS_Nirvana into the Whichbot data folder, and rename it to a wpt file. Whichbot seemed to be happy to use this file for it's waypoints. Is there any problems with doing this? It is a bit strange this one, as the lift works from the top no worries, but from the bottom the bots are completely ignoring the switch 99% of the time. It could be the switch location I suppose. We will check out ns_origin to see if maybe there is something we missed. |2usty |

Good to hear, i hope you get that sorted but i'm coming to the pessimistic point of view that no matter what; 50% of the time a bot is going to end up doing a kamikaze jump off a lift edge no matter how much time is spent on the waypointoing.
Other than that they are seeming to do well and i have spent the best part of the night kicking whichbots ass with the rcbots. will have more to rant later. |2usty |

It's a bit tricky for going down lifts because sometimes you dont know if there really is a lift, as its already descent so bots just walk off the ledge :/
Im afraid this is the way it will stay unless anyone wants to have a go if I release the source |

The url where this page points to (thehivemind.org) must be down. Is there another source where I can find this map? |

I just tried the link from the page then and it seems to be up and running, if you still have trouble with it i'll look elsewhere for another link. |

Thanks, that one was good. Ok, I re-did most of the waypoints and the bots are moving around just fine but they still seem to refuse to hit the use key when they reach a "lift button" waypoint.
Chesseh, that waypoint "lift button" requires some kind of fix. Other then that, there is nothing more I can do. Anyway, here is the fixed waypoint and an updated minimap sprite. Attached File(s) ns_nirvana_wpt.zip ( 21.37k ) Number of downloads: 106 |

There is nothing wrong with the lift button waypoint . I have tested it and it works, perhaps it's name is confusing you. See my explanation above on this thread, quoted:

This is what I thought was correct. I placed a (red) "lift button" waypoint at the lift button and then placed a (white) "wait for lift" waypoint on the lift itself then placed a (blue) "standard" waypoint for the lift exit point as this would just make sence to me.
What the bot is doing is walking the waypoints and paths as I have laid them out, looks at the button but forgets to hit the use key as it runs by then moves onto the lift and waits for it to move. It just stands there looking around for a minute then moves along thinking the lift must be broken and sometimes repeats the prosess. Please explain what I'm doing wrong so I may correct this problem. |

it should
1; move to the lift 2; find out that the lift is not there, goto 7 3; find out that the bot is now standing on the lift 4; press the nearest button 5; wait until lift stops 6; continue 7; find a lift button waypoint 8; goto lift button waypoint 9; press nearest button 10; wait for lift to descend, goto 1 |

So let me get this straight in a REALLY aweful drawing:
[][][] ______________ []X---------------1-------0 [][][] _______ | _____ (View from above. This would be so much easier if ___________ | _____ you could use spaces instead of ___ oh well ) ___________ | _____ ________ [Button] __ X = Wait for Lift, __ = Ground, - and | = Pathwaypoints, [] = Lift __________________ *The button is in sight of the lift, but not on the lift itself. Does X need to be on solid ground BEFORE the lift, or ON the lift? If it's waypointed correctly, let's say this is the 1st floor, and Lift is on the 2nd floor: -Bot starts at 0 and goes to 1. -According to your description Cheeseh, I'm assuming the bot realizes the lift isn't there, and goes to press the button without going anywhere near X (there could be a pit there or something). -After pressing the button, the bot waits until the lift arrives, again without going anywhere near X. -Once lift arrives, bot presses button again and THEN moves onto X. Please tell/show me how this could be waypointed differently. |

Ok, here is an image of the lift in question. As far as I can tell, it is waypointed properly. Please explain why the bot does not hit the use key at the lift button waypoint.
