So I've been trying to fine tune a Day of Defeat:Source server running rcbots2 version 1.3 so that it doesn't crash for a couple months now. Sometimes it runs for an hour, sometimes for 8 hours, and sometimes for 17 hours, it's random, but it always crashes.
I updated to version 1.51 hoping it would solve the frequent crashes, but the issue persists. The only thing I edited was the config, changing it to the following settings: CODE rcbot_skill 1.0, rcbot_supermode 1, rcbot_bot_quota_interval 5 and I commented out: CODE #rcbotd config min_bots -1 #rcbotd config max_bots 10 so that the bot quota would work in version 1.51. When updating to 1.51, I deleted the file 'rcbot2' from my addons folder, and then extracted the v1.51 rcbot2 file and metamod file, making sure all files being copied replaced the older files. Here is a list of my plugins: CODE admin-flatfile.smx adminhelp.smx adminmenu.smx advertisements.smx antiflood.smx autorecorder.smx basebans.smx basechat.smx basecomm.smx basecommands.smx basetriggers.smx basevotes.smx clientprefs.smx dodsbalancer.smx dod_damage_report.smx funcommands.smx funvotes.smx gameme.smx mapchooser.smx nextmap.smx nominations.smx playercommands.smx randomcycle.smx randommapstartup.smx reservedslots.smx rockthevote.smx sm_dod_admin_skins.smx sm_dod_dropweapon.smx sm_dod_medic.smx sm_dod_pistols.smx sounds.smx srctv_demorec.smx The server is at 100 tick, though I don't think that has anything to do with the crashing. Using version 1.3 I added rcbot_runplayer_hookonce 0 to the config and that didn't fix the crashing and rcbot_runplayer_hookonce 1 didn't fix it either. In version 1.51 this command doesn't work anymore because if I add rcbot_runplayer_hookonce 0 or 1 to the rcbot config the srcds console says: Unknown command "rcbot_runplayer_hookonce" The only rcbot error I can see in console is: [RCBot] ERROR: failed to make folders for dod/addons/rcbot2/profiles\33.ini and this only appeared after I upgraded to v1.51 I have also tried to delete every .rcv file in the waypoints folder, but that hasn't stopped the crashes either. I'm not sure what to do. Is there a way to run version 1.51 so that it doesn't crash, or are there any more stable versions that I can guarantee no crashing? Might there be something about my server configuration or plugins that's crashing the server? The console never shows anything helpful to suggest what the crash is being caused by. I'd gladly give more info if need be. |

Most servers may not cope with bots being added or spawned quickly, so it's recommended not to set the interval to less than 7 secs. Also, the default interval setting is 10 seconds.
Try setting the rcbot_bot_quota_interval at 8 or 10 The `[RCBot] ERROR: failed to make folders for dod/addons/rcbot2/profiles\33.ini` isn't that serious for a crashing bug as most Source servers only cope with a max of 32 slots. And I believe that `rcbot_runplayer_hookonce` command is removed in v1.51, I didn't remove it personally but our coders might of done |

And I believe that `rcbot_runplayer_hookonce` command is removed in v1.51, I didn't remove it personally but our coders might of done So I changed rcbot_bot_quota_interval to 10, but unfortunately it didn't help. The server eventually got into a crash cycle where it couldn't run for more than 2 minutes. I have found somewhat of a solution, though its not preferable because while there are no players, no bots will appear in the server browser. I ended up setting the bot quota to 0 when no players are connected and the server has since been up for 4 days without a hitch. This will limit the crashing to when there are between 1-5 players, which drastically shrinks the opportunity for the server to crash. Of course, this will not mitigate the occasional crash while those 1-5 players are connected, but considering the server usually lasts about 8 hours with bots before crashing, the crashing should be rare if not entirely gone. I am still looking for a better solution, but this is an okay workaround. |
