- HASN'T BEEN WORKING SINCE SCOUT UPDATE! -


Test RCBot 2 Alpha with TF2

there is no support given for it right now, all the details (very little) to use are on the download page.

i.e. If you don't know how to use it, don't try just now!!

Put "rcbot2" folder in "Steam\steamapps\<your email>\" folder

Put "HPB_Bot2.dll" into "Steam\steamapps\paul.murphy@ntlworld.com\team fortress 2\bin" folder

Run Team Fortress 2 with "-console" enabled (Or goto Options, Keyboard, Advance, Enable Developer Console)

Type plugin_load "..\bin\HPB_Bot2"

Create a server with a CTF map (ctf_2fort / ctf_well / ctf_turbine)

When map started, Open console and type "rcbot addbot" or "rcbot addbot <class number>"

Class numbers:

1 = scout
2 = sniper
3 = soldier
4 = demoman
5 = medic ( Bugs )
6 = hwguy
7 = pyro ( Bugs )
8 = Spy
9 = Engineer


(There are many bugs)



the SVN is always up to date

Also note: This version should work with Orange Box HL2DM and also fixes some bugs

i couldnt get her running on a dedicated server, but i got it working on a listen server, and it would appear as though they dont give a rats fart about encountering turrets. putting up one gun was enough to keep them away from the flag for the full game.

they did kick the crap out of me in normal combat though. woohoo!

they can shoot sentrys now dont worry smile.gif just not uploaded that one! you can download the source and compile it though wink.gif


Oh, did u use the "rcbotd" command in dedicated server instead of just "rcbot" ?? if not your lack of rcbot2 knowledge disturbs me tongue.gif

I've uploaded a new version (0.2) to the filebase (same place)

new command:
rcbot addbot <class> <team> <name>

Engineer bots build a level 1 sentry
Medics try to heal (Bug exists)
bots know weapons now
bot speeds reduced
HWGuys use minigun ok now
bots shoot buildings better now

bug with Pyro flamethrower and medic medigun
some bugs with bots going to waypoints and hanging about

i couldnt even get the server to run using rcbot, it'd start up, find the profiles, then it said something about "blahblah orangebox/tf" and something about mods.ini, and closed.

i fiddled with mods.ini and still couldnt get it to work, im not even 100% sure where the folders are sposda go

and after all, that was my first actual try at using rcbot2 ever tongue.gif

ill have to try again later

I wouldnt use it with dedicated server just now as there will be many bugs anyway biggrin.gif

i dont actually run a tf2 server, but ive got dedicated servers set up for most every HL/HL2 mod, crap ive got dozens of game servers set up, just they never run lol

Well my main machine just packed in today ... Just doesnt boot up , powers up and evertyhing but the power cuts out after 2 sec

edit: after I replaced the PSU its going ok so far smile.gif

I think I told u before and you told me to get a better one! IT wad only a 300Watter but the currents on it looked good enough.. The "new" one I put in is one of my old PSUs but its a 400Watter apparantly, although its got some better currents it got some worse ones too. but it works.. for now

just for info
there is some relative path error in your project for strtools.h;iplayerinfo.h;Icommandline.h

a other solution to load the dll:
create somme folder to have this:
Valve\Steam\SteamApps\xxxxxx@free.fr\team fortress 2\tf\addons\rcbot\bin\
put the hpbot2 dll in this bin folder
modify the HPB_bot2.vdf to have this so no more command line to use



"Plugin"

"file" "..\tf\addons\rcbot\bin\HPB_bot2.dll"

umm how come the bots dont work for me? can you provide a installation guide or something. After i add he bots they dont do anything?..they dont move or shoot or anything. I followed the commands it needed and everything. Ideas?

but, the way i got it to work, only using a listen server (that is, opening tf2, and clicking create server):

go here: http://filebase.bots-united.com/index.php?...view&id=449 and get the latest compiled version

put hpb_bot2.dll in \steam\steamapps\<yourname>\team fortress 2\bin
put the rcbot2 folder in \steam\steamapps\<yourname>

start up tf2, hit ~ to go into the console and type

plugin_load ../bin/hpb_bot2
if everythings working right, some messages should pop up showing that rcbot2 was loaded

click create server, set the map to ctf_2fort (as thats the only map with waypoints at the moment)

once the game has started, type rcbot in the console and it will show you the list of available commands

to add bots, type rcbot addbot

that should be everything you need to get it started. worked for me anyways.

Found that all bots in my team always spawn as soldiers for some reason, and is this open source project ? if yeah where exactly can i take the look at the source code ?

Also please try and make all classes have proper speeds, and recognise you from further away, i spawned them in gravelpit, all red walked to middle point, i stood on a ramp and they didnt shoot me until i got closer to them where a real player would have killed you ages ago tongue.gif

played a bit..SO AWESOME..just a suggestion though when you do rcaddbot is it possible it randomizes classes it adds..

use:

rcbot addbot <class>

and Btw, randomisation is added, its just that the Valve randomiser is crap or i'm not using it right! I'll add my own mersenne twister randomiser to the bot sometime.

I've uploaded a new latest build with

some speed improvements hopefully
Spy checking (they say "spy" when they see an enemy spy),
spy disguising/cloaking.
now using mersenne twister randomiser (fixes default bots from going soldier all the time)
fix sniper bugs
reduced player speeds a little
but still a bit poor
added commands: rcbot_flipout (bots always attack if 1), rcbot_scoutdj (double jump period for scouts), rcbot_anglespeed (speed bots turn)

Great stuff ! keep the updates comming !

also an idea, try to make soldiers not to shoot if the enemy is really close to them with rockets but switch to shotgun instead or walk backwards if that happens.

it's already been done in the update

weapons will be improved by allowing the user to alter their preferences using an ini file
