I reciently purchased a rack server also to run a second server.
I Have rcbot runing on my server here where I have access to the root half-life directory. But here is my issue. On the rack server I do not have access to the root half-life directory. Is there a way to plug the rcbot folder under the directory which I do have access to (the /half-life/nsp directory) Any info would be great. Would like to put bots on the server untill peak times when there are players. Thanks for any input all. |

Unfortuanatly, putting it into the nsp & ns folder is the most common reason that people cant get RcBot to work. Half life root or dedicated server root is the place to install RcBot.
Try this instead: The method does not need half life to be installed to be honest, and you only need to make sure you are using metamod Download Steam Dedicated Server and install wherever it is convinient eg: d:\dedicated Server or even wipe whatever is in the present NSP directory if that is the only folder you can get access to, as you do mention you do-not have root access eg: d:\halflife\nsp and install steam dedicated server into there. Download Natural Selection Dedicated Server make a directory called ns (valid for V3beta5) within the NSP directory so the folder structure now looks like: d:\halflife\nsp\ns install V3 NS dedicated server into this folder add another directory called rcbot, within the NSP folder thus: d:\halflife\nsp\rcbot install rcbot into this folder That should get you working if you are having problems with alias's etc (Hope it all makes sense...) Ps: dont forget to install metamod into the addons directory |

I would Like to do that but the server has a start line which directs its self to the present directory structure.
But I have tried everything I know to do and what have ya. The way your talking it would work IF i could get them to change the command start line for the server which they have already indicated that they will not. its runing metamod and the rcbot_mm.dll is loading up fine but the bots never appear in the server. If there was a way to change what path that the bot was looking at for its cfg files that would be nice. Like stated before using the rcbot_mm.dll and loading it via metamod its loading fun but the bots just dont show up. I played with it for a while but never could get it working. Thanks for your input though Its greatly appreciated! Little more input after more experimentation..... After you load the server up and get rcbot loaded under metamod it says.... Cannot load the brain file and the bot ini (not exactly but thats what its saying) This post has been edited by Snake_Doc: Sep 23 2004, 01:56 PM |

It cannot load anything because the rcbot files aren't in the right place anyway.
I guess you plead with the server administrator that you get root access to HL folder. ! |

I'm afraid you must have access to the hlds root directory to install and use rcbot simply because rcbot does not support the addons directory structure standerd like almost everything else metamod compatable can.
Also, that method that grunt tryed to coach you on would not work in steam anyway because the hlds.exe can't read sub-directories beyond the normal standerd. For that to work, you would need to create a new folder that was an exact match of the hlserver folder. So it would appear something like this.... C:/hlserver/server But, even that would prove useless if the server owner does not update the server restart app runline. So it looks as if you have only 2 options. 1) Beg and plead with the server owner for access to the hlds root directory. 2) If that fails, your SOL. Your only option at that point is whichbot. |
