Here I am again working at dod_strand endlessly ever since rcbot2 0.7 with full dods support
was released but this time there's a new bot problem. I just love beach maps ever since the early beta days of dod beta 1.0 (hl1 mod version) containing the simplest version of dod_omaha. Then came dod_charlie which was so good and at the same time it's kinda bad cause it's just so huge beyond the beach which is the exact same problem with dod_strand. You need atleast 31 bots to enjoy the combat on this map. That's ok on classic dod but on dods and dod_strand my pc can only handle 16 or lesser bots and more than that it lags too much and it's so straining always starting in the beach farthest area. I thought, why not simplify this cool map's gameplay so it kinda emulates the good old days of beta dod_omaha and that Saving Private Ryan beach scene. So here's a fun version of DoD_Strand hope some few of you dods players enjoys it. And I'm really sorry if the author and some of you hates what I did...it's all for pure fun with rcbot2. I was planning to do this on dod_charlie but dod looks too ugly now lol compared to dods. DoD_Strand entity tweaks: - remove the 3 objectives leaving the radio tower only to simplify and concentrate the gameplay within the beach area using much lesser bots for people like me who don't have a powerful pc. An alternative fun way to play the map I think. - a solution to make bots inside bunkers, one particular sandbag, sniper outside left bunker to finally shoot low on the beach and be shot at. - spread-out the spawn points location, some near, some far, inside bunkers, radio tower, most on top of bomb pick ups, etc and deleted the teleporters. - I've tried to put some blockers to block unused areas/routes but nothing worked...not really needed anyway. - Everyone spawns quickly. - Scoring... 50 points if allies bomb the radio tower, 5 points per minute for the defending axis. - It's a 7 min battle. Yeah that still favors the allies coz I thought during D-Day the axis defended and fought well but they really didn't had a fighting chance hehe but for this game let the axis get some. Bots stuff: What dahhh!!!...Their blind again!!! - Cheeseh has done awesome work on his bot's aiming AI but then again some few maps still won't let the bots shoot at all on certain location so I was really surprised when I noticed the bots inside the bunkers were not shooting at all and were not being shot at. It won't feel complete without those mg's killing mercilessly inside those infamous bunkers so.... I thought they just needed a slight elevation but their still blind low but I was getting closer to the fix. They can only shoot higher. But tnc God I finally found a solution!!! - so bots are doing perfect now just the way I like them to be especially the axis bots.... Spawn raping the allies haha!!! So much fun now!!! Other bot stuff... - beach wpts are kinda linear but human like. - allies will always bomb assault both wooden bunker entrance and the wall on the right and made sure they don't back track to the beach. - axis will try to defend the radio tower as much as they could and will jump over those ledges back and forth perfectly most of the time hehe. - It's a newly done wpt but concentrated only within the beach and radio tower combat zone. I've placed some noaxis noallies tags to prevent them from wondering outside the combat zone. - most allies bots will spawn on top of bomb pick up points so no need to put a bombs wpts so the bots will go directly to the goal much faster...sometimes bots having no bombs will wait until another bot bombs the barbed wire blockage. - sometimes bots gets stuck on the bunker crates...well their just bots they will do some stupid things every now and then hehe! - tested it for more than an hour 7 vs 7 and they scored quite close as write this...no crashes using RCBot2 beta 0.75. Bot bug as of RCBot2 beta 0.75... - Axis Bots tend to look on the wrong side when using defend wpts. They tend to look where the normal wpt leading to defend wpt is connected. I connected another normal wpt infront of the defend wpt but still their looking back though they snap quickly to shoot incoming allies. Playing with the bots... - I reinforce the axis if I'm playing on the allies and vice versa if I join the axis. So easy to snipe the poor allies inside the bunkers hehe. This sounds cool . I'm away from home right now, but will check it out as soon as I can... Yeah, a lot of the wide open maps require more bots/players to make good intense action, and my limit is about 14 or 16 on my crappy old PC. I see you ended up proning the mg's & snipers in those bunkers, to get them shooting at each other. With those thick walls, I think players probably have problems getting a good target angle too... I had a lot of trouble getting bots to face yaw direction on defend only wpts (or defend classes), on flash, with .72/.73/.74. Most of the time they won't face correctly, but as you say they usually will snap to face an enemy, but not allways. It's difficult in some locations to get defend wpts working right because of this. So I don't think its new. They turn 90 or more degrees from yaw when camping on a defend wpt. I noticed they don't seem to pull all the way onto a defend wpt when camping, even with radius 0. But when they move to leave the wpt, they seem to face the yaw then (or the path??)? The funny thing is, I seemed to have better luck with defend facing direction, when I had them back thier way onto a defend wpt! Which isn't allways possible, and a bit wonky... I need to recheck this, but I don't think bots are proning (or staying proned) on defend only wpts, when camping? I'll double check this tonite with .75... Anyways, can't wait to try this out... max |

Hmmm, not sure whats going on with that fileden link, it works for a while, then it doesn't. I never had anything like that happen with fileden, wierd . I'm using a download manager with it now, on my slow dialup, got about 50% of it. So don't take it down or redo it just yet. The link didn't work last night, but was working this morning. Now it's down again... I'll try again later... As for 4shared, it requires registration to download, so i quit using it to host a while back, my account there may of expired??? [edit] Well its working again on fileden . I don't think it would be bandwidth? They may be having temporary(hopefully) problems with a server? It happened once before, that I know of, in the last year & a half I've been using the service... So, hopefully it will correct itself... |

I got the map/rcw from the first fileden link . The link seems ok now. [edit] nope, both went down!! [edit] I had a good time playing this last night. I played close to 10, 7min rounds in it, mostly on allied side. I started out with 7vs7, I managed to destroy the tower in one of the first 3 games. Then I gave the opposite team (axis) a one player advantage. I must of got lucky that first game and destroyed the tower, but after that I never got it again. It may of been the game I had an extra sniper on axis, instead of an extra mg. An extra mg really made it better, they had me pinned down on the beach one game, and another time when I went to plant the bomb, a mg was setup on the radio table and blew me away. Lots of good mg ambush locations. I was surprized by them a few times, excellent.... Good work on this, i'll be playing it more... max P.S. i think you have a double post in this thread.... lots of cool pics though ... |

It feels good getting spawn rape by some random axis mg on the beach ain't it LoL?! btw... dod_peleliu has been semperfied too and it's rcbot2 perfect, no blind bots hehe. it's the pacific theater....SEMPER FI!!!! Yeah, will have to play some beach maps. My dad wasn't part of the d-day invasion, but he was serving in italy at the time. I need to remember to call him tomarrow, he's 92 now.... 20 minutes till d-day here...

Dang, I just checked my backup copy, and it seems some dod source update must of broke this bsp, crashes straight to the desktop without rcbots enabled, bummer ... Hope genmac comes back and fixes it ...? I haven't done a steam/source update for over a month now, so it's been broken for at least that long... I checked the original dod_strand bsp, and that still works ok... |

@ woody56 ....use Internet Download Manager or anything similar to get the files correctly. The MEdiafire link still works for me. Map bug: - Since this map have been edited the HD features on certain materials or textures got screwed up so if you're seeing some weird texture or anything turn HDR settings to - none. - Also bots tends to get stuck within the boxes when the go prone or move sideways I think. FOR ADVANCE USERS ONLY who knows how to use sourcemod plugins!!! Map zones: I've blocked certain areas of the map so to make sure no bots or even humans should wonder off. I also added death zones inside the boxes on the bunkers but don't they always work when bots get stuck there. You need to install the DODS: ZONES sourcemod plugin to make this to work... I've updated my dods and updated the zones but I'm getting random crash to desktop now...seems the outdated dods was more stable on my part.
Will check if the stock maps won't crash me.....and yes their stable. @Max...yo bro well been busy to life lately and on to some other hobbies but games just won't go away no matter how old we get ay hehe. Oh tested this map again and no more random crashes but I had to turn off our internet modem hehe.
