I'm posting this here as I'm not sure it's a bug and not human error, or just some weird glitch with my setup.
I noticed this with RCbot 1.2 in NS 2.01 and now with RCBot 1.3 in NS 3.0 Beta 2. 1.2 in 2.01 the bots would prefer LMG, pistol, knife in that order. Cool deal. Once upgraded to shottie/gl/or HA, it was knife, pistol preference. It sucks giving all your bots HMG/HA to only have them crouch and knife the onos(es). In 1.3 3.0Beta2 they don't even seem to prefer the LMG. It's knife, pistol all the time. It's so bad to the point where turret farming your base is mandatory as your marines can't put up any resistance to stop skulks from chewing the CC to bits in the first five minutes. I didn't figure that I'd need to configure any files to change this behavior, but maybe I'm wrong. Am I missing something? |

Maybe the weapon Id's where changed, flayra would only know (the main coder of NS) I've asked for updates but no reply yet.
There is a bot_weapons.ini file that tells the bot what weapons are used and may have to edit that file, but only really if you know the correct weapon Ids (they are correct from NS 2) but Ns 3 may differ (asking flayra for confirmation ![]() |

Put RCbot 1.3 on a windows server. It's quite a bit more powerful than my freebsd server (1.3 XP versus 500mhz dual celly's). I noticed that the bots actually use weapons more on his server. They were using shotguns and hmg's and GLs even. I really noticed it in Combat. I know they don't upgrade or leave base really, but they would use their stock LMGs on his server whereas on mine they'd only use the knife.
I once did a shotgun rush on my server right from the get go. 2 outta 4 of my marines used their shotties, the other two used their pistols. When I play longer games they just use knife only. I'll watch them run around with an HMG and the second they spot an alien they switch to knife. This somewhat supports the possible theory of lack of cpu power being the cause. I run sturmbot on my DoD server and I notice when there's alot of connections, and/or I'm updating psychostats that the bots run around in slow motion. That's the only "cpu lag" issue I've ever seen with any bot program. At least that I could pinpoint to being caused by "cpu lag". All of this has been running around in my mind which leads me to ask: How CPU intensive is RCbot? Could it be something as simple as I don't have enough power for them to use "more complex" weapons? The only other difference is I'm using FreeBSD and he's using windows. Neither of us change the rcbot configuration in anyway. Can't see it being an OS issue though as surely someone else would have noticed by now. Then again just because they notice doesn't mean they report. I can go to the extremes of putting windows on my server, or slapping my HD into a faster box to try to answer this question. Somewhat curious as to what your opinion/ideas/thoughts are on this issue before I go that far. |

if the bots run in slow motion thats because your doing other tasks which are causing time between frames much longer (or smaller and there is frame skipping) bots take up plenty of cpu already, you don't want to use anymore.
