I havent played NS before and before down loading it i would like to know if NS3.0 requiers steam.

Currently, NS 3.0 beta works in both steam and won but defaults the install for steam.

When i try to install beta 1 it says that i need steam with proper third party support.

Did you try changing the install-to directory? As I said earlyer, NS 3.0 beta's default install is for steam. If that don't work then I guess you have to install steam just to install NS 3.0 and just copy & paste the nsp folder to won. That's what I did.
