im trying to set up a lan server for me and a few friends to play on, i have metamod, amxmod, rcbot and whichbot installed.

everything works fine except rcbot. the marine bot's seem to run off on there own, they don't build and they don't listen to their commands. the waypoint file is there.

I have revised the install intructions over and over again to make sure i havent done anything wrong, i have also searched and cannot find anything on this subject.

im a bit baffled, any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Same here. Sometimes I have the same problem. They just stood there doing nothing. When I give waypoint to them, they don't obey it.

If they are just standing around doing ABSOLUTELY nothing, it's probably the waypoint file. The bots need a waypoint file for that map in order to walk around and know the map.

My problem is slightly different, where I have the waypoint file, and the move around the map, they just don't build anything or follow waypoints, they just do as they please.

obvously the program is not reading the waypoint file, meaning it can't find it, meaning that rcbot folder is probably not in the right place, and it should be looking in "<hl folder>\rcbot\waypoints\nsp\<map>.rcw". If it's not there then it's in the wrong place, and it must be in nsp folder, not ns folder for Ns 2 beta3+.

So we have to place the waypoint files in nsp folder if we're using NS 2.0 or NS Beta 3+? No wonder the bots did nothing laugh.gif. Thanks for the solution biggrin.gif

my waypoints are located in

C:\program files\steam\steamapps\Myemail@isp.com\half-life\rcbot\waypoints\nsp

and all the files are *.rcw

Looking at the instructions, there in the right place.

It could be bad waypoints, but i did download them off the rcbot main page, and im still getting the problem.

maybe put

developer 1

on and then

rcbot debug nav 1

in the console to see what rcbot spits onto the console, it might have a problem that no bot can find a waypoint. Some waypoints are too far away from bots spawn positions and can't find a waypoint so stay still in the spawn point.

the NS 2 waypoints should be in "rcbot/waypoints/ns" folder btw, ns 3 waypoints go in the "rcbot/waypoints/nsp" folder.'

Also, make 100% sure the waypoints you put in the rcbot/waypoints/nsp folder have waypoints written for NS 3.0. Seems the new version of NS maps have been compiled with a new hullfile and in turn, changed the floor level hight of all the updated maps.

Any NS 2.0 default map waypoints used on NS 3.0 default maps will appear below floor level of the maps and are no longer visible there-for, won't work.

The easyest way to tell if your waypoint file still works is start up a lan game and open the console and type: rcbot waypoint on then hit [enter]

Then join any team and look around for what looks like thin blue lightning strikes standing on the ground. Those of you unfamilure with them, those are waypoints. If you see them, your good to go.

If you don't see any waypoints in the map and your 100% sure you have a .rcw file for that map then check the waypoints board in this forum for the updates.

Right I did what you guys said. I had a look at the waypoints (as shown in pictue below)

user posted image

As you can see the waypoints are there and the bot is reading them.

I also did the debug thing and my console showed me this:

QUOTE
RCBOT>] [DEBUG:NAV]=>AStarAlgo() HiPinger finding path from 28 to 22
[RCBOT>] [DEBUG:NAV]=>AStarAlgo() HiPinger continuing to find path from 28 to 22

[RCBOT>] [DEBUG:NAV]=>AStarAlgo() HiPinger could not find path from wpt: 28 to wpt: 21
[RCBOT>] [DEBUG:NAV]=>AStarAlgo() HiPinger finding path from 28 to 3

That's just an extract.

Also I have a Demo of the bot's behaviour if that helps.

You can get it Here (requires Natural selection v3 beta 3 to view)

And this is the pack that I got the waypoint from:

Here

Hope this helps

try this rcbot dll (this is a metamod dll file) it has updates frmo the last version but it does not yet support combat, it just has the bot_wait_for_orders command bug which is better for commanding, which actually might fix your problem. Also it should be a bit more stable as some crashes have been fixed.

You guys are legends, it works perfectly now.

They follow orders and shoot aliens now tongue.gif

Just one question, is there a way to stop them moving quite so much. biggrin.gif

Thanks Guys for the awesome help.

Yeah actually, keep giving them orders that they can carry out or drop them a lot of equpment and keep them busy building. Trust me, they don't mind it a bit tongue.gif

Cheeseh, is that rcbot_mm.dll a bugfix update to the released v1.3? Because I am seeing random cases where rcbot marines fail to attack anything yet are moving to waypoint and building as ordered. It's like they can't see the enemy or their structures for some reason.

try it yourself! I can't remember exactly what I fixed but I did notice some things that I sorted out. That might fix the problem because that's the version I work on, so I would not be aware of such problems if I don't get them with this dll (I have not seen them not attack with the latest bot, that was a problem with v1.2)

Well, I tried that rcbot_mm.dll and found it was made 1 hour BEFORE the 1.3 released version. Does that sound correct? Also, it did nothing but crash my NS 2.01 server relentlessly as soon as the marines tried to build anything.

Bug fix for steam? maybe, didn't try. Bug fix for won? hell no!

PS: The command:
QUOTE
config marine_auto_build 1
when inserted in the bot_config.ini seems to do absolutly nothing. Am I using it correctly?

it only works at the start of the map when there are marine bots and aliens (players or bots) in the game

it also needs waypoints in the map near the command console

1) it only works at the start of the map when there are marine bots and aliens (players or bots) in the game

2) it also needs waypoints in the map near the command console

1) Doesn't seem to matter if it's all bots, all humans or a mix of humans and bots, I have yet to see this work. And being that I put the command in the bot_config.ini, it doesn't get any closer to catching the start of a map then that.

2) All maps on my server ( in rotation ) are waypointed and have at least, 3 waypoints within range of the CC to drop an infantry portal. Do I need a special waypoint for this or does it work with any waypoint?
