I do have a problem running them with Whichbots though. After playing for a while, HLDS generates an exception and closes.

Seems like the latest steam patches seem to think when you run a debug dll it has to break at it's breakpoints and quit ... or something. When I use a release dll it's more stable... Maybe it's just steam dry.gif

I haven't tried with HLDS yet though.

How long is a while? Mine's been running for ~60 hours before it hangs, and you gotta terminate the thread... I still gotta try the bot cam thing though! biggrin.gif

CODE
Hanging application hlds.exe, version 4.1.1.1, hang module swds.dll, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x000baa9b.

Hehe, I don't think I've ever seen an "Application Hang" error in the event viewer... biggrin.gif

Only thing I can see at crash time, is hlds.exe using 50>55% processing, and memory climbing by 4kb blocks unsure.gif

Nothing, as Skitchie says in apps logs or anywhere else?

There's a guide here :

http://rcbot.bots-united.com/index.php?page=install.htm

And if you want to use the debug version which is periodically posted here, you need to change the liblist.gam (for standalone version) or the metamod plugins.ini (for metamod version) to point to the hpb_bot.dll instead of rcbot.dll

Put the hpb_bot in the same folder as the regular rcbot dlls

I have a feeling it is crashing because of Steam or because its a debug dll. again steam. I sent erik @ valve the MDMp files steam made after quitting without an error whilst debugging my bot, hopefully they'll find somethin...

In the mean time TRY The RELEASE DLL (not exactly a release) but not a debug one..

its windows metamod dll (this time it's RCBOT_MM.dll) I've also made a few changes to the bot that include fixing a problem with bots tasks either getting loaded with millions of NORMAL_ATTACK tasks because they find an enemy while reloading (now they take some time while reloading) or switching each frame between attack and reload.
I noticed this problem as the botcam kept going crazy while a bot reloaded!

fixed a crash ohmy.gif

Hey folks.

I seem to have narrowed down the cause of the crashing problem.

I started out using your release dll, but I was still getting crashes.

I checked the Watson dump, and found that the crashes were occuring regularly, every fifteen minutes or so.

So I checked my server.cfg file and saw that I had both mp_combattime and mp_timelimit set to 15 minutes. I changed mp_timelimit to 10 minutes, That way when the round ended, the map would change.

This time, the server went an hour and a half between crashes.

I'll keep you posted.

I had somethin go crazy with my server... of course I had it in a high thread priority, so when it did get stuck in what I can only assume is an infinite loop, it was hung at 99% CPU usage, and it took me for freaking ever to terminate the process so I could restart it... mad.gif Since then I think it's crashed once, it wasn't up very long, no clue how long though, I've been remodeling walls and crap in my house, now everythings covered in drywall and sawdust... rolleyes.gif

I deleted the emails serverdoc sent me with all the info about the crashes and times sad.gif man I'm a smart one... but its kinda fun having your own SMTP server in yer house laugh.gif

http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow

to get the windows or linux hlds installation. Make sure you run hldsupdatetool.exe before you get started (if you can find easyHLDSupdate I can recommend you use this instead, its a shell updater). you nornally only need to update the valve directory.

to install NS, just place the nsp dedicated server installation into the hlds directory e.g:

d/:dedicatedserver/nsp

most people use the non-GUI DOS command line to kick hlds.exe into action. e.g:

d:\dedicatedserver\hlds.exe -game nsp -maxplayers 17 +map co_organic -console +ip 192.168.1.100 +port 27016 +mapchngecfgfile server.cfg +exec banned.cfg +exec listip.cfg

Hope this helps you for a change... dry.gif
