Alright, I walked my fat ass over to the server, cause VNC crapped out on me as per the norm of late mad.gif, typed in rcbot debug nav 1, and lo and behold, its working on the server's command console... dry.gif so, I go try it in game, i tried standard..

CODE
developer 1
rcbot debug nav 1

and that just gave me
CODE
[RCBOT>] Error accessing command...

so I tried...
CODE
rcon rcbot debug nav 1

which successfully made the console on the server spit out the debug information... but wouldn't spit it out to the console in game... So I guess what I'm after, is there any way to make it spit out code for the RCBot admins in game? ::asking a lot:: lol laugh.gif

...and I got a bunch of posts, when do I get a fancy member title!? biggrin.gif

It's a bit bizzare, perhaps the dedicated server check doesn't work in HLDS on Steam. It works fine on HLDS in WON. I haven't tried on steam and can't exactly find the problem anyway as I can't debug!

Making the debug spit out onto people that asked for the debug info, would mean code changes.. which I would probably do sometime.. like soon, since I've got nothing better to do

As for member titles, I can slap one on anytime ... tongue.gif ...

Well, I'd rather you not inconvenience everyone to appease us steamers trying to use the debug command, I'd say theres more pressing needs that should be fixed...

The thing that sticks out in my mind, is everyone always complaining on my server that the gorges dont heal anything per se... Would it be possible/easy to copy and paste, then tweak the marine build structure code to become an alien heal structure function? The marines are pretty good about building and welding things that they come across..

But as for the healing thing, I'll use the ever so common combat map scenario, a marine hurts the hive to .... 5000ish. A gorge bot or two will walk to any waypoint in the general vicinity of the hive, stare at nothing in particular, and spray healspray until the hive heals on its own. So couldn't the alien think "hey, I need to weld that hive," run over to it, switch to heal spray, and 'weld' it up to full health?

You can, but as Skitchy said, the little varmints are like a dog having a wee:

They are staring at nothing in particular, heal spraying no-where near the target (hive).
Thats all they do, trying to emulate the latest airspray from glade, instead of actually doing something constructive!

lol, well they choose the nearest waypoint to the hive to get to it. I'm still a bit confused as to what you want me to do instead of healing or while healing the hive?

Ps, there is your member title gruuunt! biggrin.gif

Well... even if they choose the nearest waypoint.. which they dont always seem to do.. they love to choose one thats close to it, but not too close, theyll look at the completely wrong direction to heal the hive, and continue to spray healspray forever.. lemme see if i can go get a demo real quick....

...3 maps later, ok cant get them to heal at all, bear with me lol

alright, another 2 maps later, and i havent seen one heal anything, ill do it with a picture!

pictures in fact

Alright, heres the current situation, hives hurt, 2 bots are gorges.

user posted image

now, the gorges will walk to any waypoint near the hive, and spray at nothing in particular, until the hives healed which could be in 10 seconds to forever if it keeps getting hurt...

What I'd propose theyd do is this...

user posted image

Walk to a waypoint, and they see the hives hurt, walk directly toward the hive, until they're within range of the healspray, then stop and start spraying, or if they reach the same XY coordinates of the hive itself, and spray towards the hive...

I dunno how much work that'd be really, but it'd be sexiful if it happened...

and since grunt there got to choose his title, mine should be: Egotistical Botfondler laugh.gif

wuld it not be easier just to make a heal hive/commchair waypoint. some maps the hives can only be healed from certain spots and that way u culd place em in positions where there not gonna die so easily as well

Hmm, I like the idea of that but not sure how 'practical' it would be to implement. The reasoning behind that is:

Take the Scenario

user posted image
The CC is someway from the nearest waypoints

user posted image
Along comes a passing Marine

user posted image
"I was gonna do something" He Thinks

user posted image
"Oh yeh, I need some ammo"

user posted image
"Fill her up please..."

Now as you can see, the marine didn't need waypoints to find the nearest Ammo Point. He has used his own navigation routine to find it.

If you waypointed a 'leg' from the main waypoint trail to the Ammo Point, this would add even more processing cycles and in practice as its a dead end, that means marines stood there doing bugger all.

Now I am not really sure (Sandy - Cheeseh?) can you place just a single unattached waypoint using [rcbot pathwaypoint remove1 >> rcbot pathwaypoint remove2] and isolate a single post, then give it a 'flag'? If this is the case, then maybe what you propose Meat_Popsicle would be practicable...

Ohhh yeh, nearly forgot Cheeseh, Thank you smile.gif - Chuckle

Take the Scenario....

Bots already do that, you should notice the marines have no trouble getting ammo.

Hives are a different matter, they are erected 500 ft above the ground!!!

Do you need to look at something to heal it?

I'll read rest of the stuff later...

Well, they don't get close enough to the hive to spray aimlessly and have a chance to heal it..

tongue.gif.. I mean it's a really simple fix, one line of code is all it takes to make them face the hive when healing. But wouldn't it be good to make them look around too? Incase of enemies shooting, they can attack them instead of healing. What do you think?

My two-penny-worth: cool.gif

I think if 'rines are shooting, they should evade and get into a better position to heal the hive. The little 'doggies' CAN kill marines with a concerted spit attack, however me-thinks the gorge should be a support lifeform and not a killing machine...
