As I figure it, by the time NS releases it's next full version, Won will be dead and steam will be the only option to play multiplayer so I believe the answer to that is as plain as day.

If anyone want's to continue playing, they will have no other choise but to get on that steaming pile of #%@$ called steam. So I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Anybody else using AMX-X?
I have disabled mine and the Crashes have reduced drastically to 1 or 2 a day now.
As you all probably know, my server runs Rcbot and Whichbot, but I eliminated the frequent server crashes, by running for a day or so with just one on its own ( Pretty Unpopular!)
I have now re-activated other metamod plugins such as marine blood etc and they dont appear to be contributing to to the instability.

Also as a matter of interest, the crashes don't appear to be instigated when the server is playing Regular NS, only when Combat maps are active.

And as a final note, the main instability is on my standalone - HLDS dedicated server machine, this is used for the public. The machine I use for waypointing is using the standard Steam dedicated server started from the Steam games panel and that can run continuous, for 2 to 3 days play testing rine vs Alien, with not as much as a hiccup...

A lot of plugins anyway = lag and crash prone like hell. I've seen some ppl run 20 plugins or so, way to many. They gotta remember theyre playing a game with all these plugins trying to run ALL of their available code per frame. Game srequire all the help they can get for smooth gameplay so it's completly interactive and not a slideshow!

One bot (I mean one bot from a bot DLL) is practically equivalent to one plugin (has to run through all ones bot code once a frame).

For argument sake, my bot doesn't think its whole code out every frame, it does it every 0.04 seconds typically and even then it won't hit as many if statements as other bots would, as it uses tasks (does code for its current task ONLY and doesn't check for other tasks it can do) and somewhat concurrent visible entity finding and pathfinding. That's why my bots is quite good on the CPU smile.gif

I have a pretty good list of plugins running on my NS 2.01 server that seem to run very well, even with bots. For that list, check out the first post at this topic.

NS 2.0 Servers running rcbot, Who has them & what are you running?

As for the default maps, the server seems to be about 99% stable. Very rarely does it ever crash on those maps but on non default maps such as ns_siege007, crashes seem to happen about 1 out of 3 times playing.

Remember that all AMX plugins are scripts, that will run probably 10x slower than metamod plugins, since it takes 10 instructuions to effectivly carry out one instruction in script. (effectively turning a 2ghz machine into 200 mhz! tongue.gif ). Sure scripting is good for usability but running too many on a network game is pushing it really.

I got 2 plugins under AMX running I think.. a thing to fix the waypoints into something intelligible, instead of "proceed to waypoint", and the other is a gateway for setting up passwords on my stats pages. If theres anything else running, I don't know about it, which is more than likely lol laugh.gif

or wenever for refresh list of bot_users.ini smile.gif


i try restart server with cmd "restart"
but for reloading list i closed my serv and reopen :|

I think mines died once so far, hasn't been jerkin me around too much...

of course.. lol oh man, alright, I shut down my server, and started it back up, and for like 20 or 30 minutes I was tryin to get the new steam ID stuff to work... freaking the hell out, "WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?" then I realized I didn't put in the new DLL... dry.gif yeah I'm retarded... but in my defense, I hadn't slept at all that day, and haven't slept good for the past two weeks!

That's mine and it seems to work fine... as far as I know, you STILL need to send the server a password, it just doesn't matter what it is..

rcbot set_pass blah
rcbot set_pass flashespassword
rcbot set_pass spoot

they all work for me, it authorizes me and lets me do whatever.

And come to think of it, it's crashed it a few more times, and I don't have the foggiest idea of whats causing it.. seems to be at the end of maps... so lemme know when you get the source ready Cheeseh, and I'll reinstall visual studio on my server and try and catch the crash for ya.
