Gday all,

Im having a problem running RCbot for NS.
I've Installed it Through Standalone, and I can add bots and everything, but just at a random time after I've added them, the game will crash and freeze. and for some reason the bots are really stupid, they wont even go out of the respawn, they just run into walls, they'll build stuff, but thats it.

I run:

win98SE
P3 700Mhz
Nvidia Geforce2 TNT2 Pro 64mb

I Installed the 0.3 version before the 1.3 version, that worked ok but it crashed a lot more. So now I installed the 1.3 version, but without metamod. Will I need that? is it absolutely nesscesary? Is it hard to use?

As I said, I might only add a couple of bots, but after say, 3 minutes of gameplay, everything will just crash.

Waypoints are probably all wrong since they are outdated.

0.3 isn't supported anymore.

use 1.3 Beta full if possible.

if using NS 3 beta 5 copy all waypoints from rcbot/waypoints/nsp into rcbot/waypoints/ns to update the waypoints in the beta version

if using NS beta 3

oops, incorrect. That's if using NS 3.0 beta 5. Currently, all other NS 3.0 beta series use the NSP directory.

Ok, I have the Rcbot 1.3 Version installed now, but the bots r really stupid, and it just ramdomnly crashes at a point in the game, usually after an alien fights a marine, or before, anywhere near where combat takes place. It just freezes.

So if I move the Waypoint files now, that will fix this?\

And I have NS 3.0 Beta 5.

Wait a second, Should I'm Confused blink.gif U said move the waypoints from the NSP folder to the NS folder in the rcbot directory, or the NS waypoints to the NSP folder?

Ok Rancid, your going to need some updates to play in NS 3.0 beta 5. First, you are going to need metamod 1.17.2.1 if your running windows. You should be able to find that at modns.org. Then your going to need the latest rcbot beta patch which can be found on these forums. Lastly, you'll need to check out the waypoints for NS section of this forum for the updated waypoints for NS 3.0 beta 5.

Since your runing NS 3.0 beta 5, your rcbot/waypoints folder must contain a folder named "ns". In that ns folder is where you need to put the updated waypoints because the waypoints that shipped in the rcbot 1.3 release are out-dated and are no longer usable.

Gah!

Do I really really really need metamod??!?!

I prefer standalone, and RCbot is the only bot i want, and I want for NS3b5 ONLY.

Im not gunna use any other bots, and Im not going to install anything I dont have to to my half-life folder, that means metamod.

And I have the latest RCbot which I picked off the site, its RCbot1.3.

I've put the waypoints in, the revamped and edited ones, and I'm gooing to test them out now...

Please scroll up and read my last post again. We have not yet released a NS 3.0 beta 5 compatable package yet so that is what you must do.

OK, I tried putting in new waypoints, still the same problem, although bots are a lot smarter.

So im going to have to do wat sandamn said, downloading metamod now.

I'll try and figure out how to do it and if it works, then ill get back to u.

As long as it doesnt stuff up my halflife, Im happy.

----------------------------------

woh, omg Im never gunna get this right.

Can someone tell me how to use metamod, on the site it doesnt have anything, on where to put the metamod.dll anywhere, and it doesnt tell me how to use it!??!

You don't need metamod to run the rcbot beta, I included the windows standalone beta DLL too in the latest beta downloads

too late, already done it, havent had a chance to test it tho, it works but, not sure if it will freeze or not.

Instead a new problem. When i tried hosting with some mates, they couldnt join because i was using the metamod dll. so I change back to the normal way using liblist.gam. they got an error saying "Did not match client dll", when i had metamod going....how can i fix this?/

all i want is for me an a couple of mates to play against some bots, or with some bots.

If it's saying the client DLL doesn't match, it means you're not all using the same version of NS.

Or.. you changed cldll in the liblist.gam instead of gamedll...

cldll "cl_dlls\client.dll"
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"

Thanx lordskitch,

I put in this line into the liblist.gam to get metamod running:

// Using HPB_bot support for now
//gamedll "dlls\ns.dll"
//gamedll_linux "dlls/ns_i386.so"
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"

Thats all I did and it said to my mates that they didint have a matching client.dll. so i returned the liblist to normal and it worked.....so.....does anyone with metamod+bots who hosts private servers get this error either?

--------------------------------------------------
do the // in front of the other dlls make a difference? im not sure....I tried the bots again but I coudnt get the right command....do the commands change when Metamod is installed??

oh and the //thing didnt work with bots...

// is only a comment flag for the game parser to ignore the characters on that line as they are only intended for humans to read. I've run a public server for over a year now, and the only time I have had that problem is when either the server is at say v3 beta 4 and the client is at v3 beta 5... unsure.gif

Ok I found out the client.dll thing was a big hoax.

it works fine, it was my mates NS that was dodgy, but i had 2 ppl on that server last night, and I assumed because both of them couldnt connect, that maybe my metamod had something to do with it. But the reason y the other guy couldnt connect was because the first guy kept trying, and cause I Have 56k the connection was blocked yp pretty quick. So sorry for wasting your times here. and thanx for the help.

Oh 1 more thing, when I played with the bots, it took a lot out of my cpu, and they were still kinda stupid eg Not getting out of base for like 5 mins, not going to waypoints, not building. I just got sortof recent waypoints too. So is there any REALLY RECENT waypoints I can get for NS AND CO maps, cause when I played in CO they didint go anywhere unless I got them to follow me, and also any commands to better my cpu running.

I've corrected some maps since I did that.. namely ns_ayumi.. there were some problems and areas not completely waypointed, and I think they changed some stuff, but I've got to get to bed...

If you're gonna use Whichbot along side RCbot, ask Sandy or Gruntmuffin for theirs laugh.gif
