Hello,

In the rcbot_profiles_readme.txt I see:

favmod="1"

(For natural-selection)

but in bot_weapons.ini I see:

# natural-selection (mod id = 2)
[mod_id=2]



I'm trying to figure out why my marines in NS always seem to use a knife even when they have a shotty and really really need to be using it aginst an enemy they can't even reach with a knife. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? I don't think I've modified either the bot_weapons.ini or the bot profiles. Is it possible to disable the knife?

mod id thing:

it doesnt say mod id 1 is for NS anywhere does it? It can be anything in bot profile.
Anyway it doesnt do anything yet.

Knife bug: There is a bug that doesnt let the bot choose its weapon... Although I think it should work in metamod Ok.

Actually, it does say 1 is for NS

Here is a quote from the rcbot_botprofile_readme.txt file

The bots favourite mods/maps and team

All these values just allow the bot to choose a team, and its map/mod.

The favmod is defined by an integer number which idenities that mod.
See the next section of "things you might need to know" and the MOD ID.

So, If you want the bot to mostly appear playing Natural-Selection then the
favmod will be "1" i.e.

To set this up, you must write "favmod" followed by an "=" and then the MOD ID.

i.e.

favmod="1"

(For natural-selection)

If it doesn't do anything, no harm, no foul, but I suppose it'd be good to get this all straight before it does do something.

also that same file says stuff about explaining the favteam stuff, but then never does:

"This is the same for favourite team except it is defined by "favteam". Read the
next section on getting the team numbers. "

I greped thru all the readmes I could find and couldn't find much other than team defs in the rcbpot_reference.txt


in any case this is minor stuff, I love the bots, I'm just trying to tweak them to play marines better.

team numbers actually work here they are in rcbot_refernce, just in a mess...

I think I figured a fix around the marines always using a knife.

in bot_weapons.ini:

# weapon id 13 (knife)
[weapon_id=13]
underwater=1
primaryfire=1
primary_min_range=0
primary_max_range=200
is_melee=1
[/weapon]

Seems like a max range of 200 is causing the marines to use the knife when it's still too far away to really be of any use. I dropped this down to 72 and I'm gong to see if they attack any better.

Also there is no priority for this weapon, could that be what causes it to get used almost always?

I changed alot of the priarity levels for my marines. Set "priarity=2" for the knife and "priarity=1" for lmg and you should see them go through all thier ammo before using the knife.
